Crash Proof Your Kids

Mount Jackson, VA (PRWEB) May 30, 2008 -- Proactive strategies developed to educate parents in the methods of teaching their teenagers to be better drivers.

"Parents have the ultimate responsibility to ensure that their teenagers develop safe driving skills and behaviors. But too many, either underestimating their role or lacking effective methods, have failed to help equip their teens to handle the single most dangerous thing they will ever do, at their most risky age," says Timothy Smith, who was recently interviewed on "The Inside Success Show".

After a rash of fatal accidents involving teenage drivers in his neighborhood, Smith decided to get heavily involved in helping his three teenagers become safer, smarter drivers. He discovered that there was very little useful information for teens and parents to take them well beyond standard driver's education courses. He read everything he could get his hands on, became a licensed driving instructor, and used his experience as an award-winning author and race car driver to develop a step-by-step plan that parents and teen can implement immediately to drive more defensively and responsibly.

He encourages parents to use proactive strategies to instruct teenagers in a 'safety first' attitude and to work on specific particular car handling and mental driving skills. He developed simple and easy exercises that every parent can follow with their teenagers to systematically reduce risks, build skills and develop awareness, resulting in safer drivers.

Teenagers are by far the riskiest group of drivers, with crash rates many times that of older drivers. According to the Allstate Foundation, a survey conducted with 15 to 17 year old drivers revealed that:

?    More than half (56 percent) of young drivers use cell phones while driving.

?    69 percent said that they speed to keep up with traffic

?    64 percent said they speed to go through a yellow light.

?    47 percent said that passengers sometimes distract them.

?    Nearly half said they believed that most crashes involving teens result from drunk driving.

Smith is passionate about changing the driving habits of teenagers (and parents). He is devoted to helping parents work with their teenagers to develop and hone better driving skills and attitudes. He stresses the parent's role in being responsible educators to their teenagers, not only as role models but in helping them be better able to react to the hazards of the road and other drivers.
